For Jumbo's Papa Terra project in Brazil, KCI was awarded the design and engineering of various deck lay out items for the transportation and installation of equipment for a Tension Leg Wellhead Plaform (TLWP). Jumbo was asked to transport 134 tendon segments with lengths up to 70 m and weighing 6000 mT in total, to an offshore location in Brazil. Subsequently these tendon segments had to be transferred to an installation vessel which had to install the TLWP mooring system.
KCI's scope for this project in 2012 - 2013 was to design and engineer a variety of seafastenings and installation aids required for on board storing and for handing over the tendon segments to the installation vessel. To this end, KCI designed special Hang Off Frames for both the Jumbo Javeling and the Fairplayer. For the Jumbo Javelin tendon racks were also designed. To verify the structural integrity of the steel design and the vessel structure Finite Element Analysis was part of KCI's scope for both heavy lift vessels. Furthermore KCI provided on-site fabrication support in the Netherlands and the USA to support and monitor the building of tendon racks and the Hang Off Frames. Also KCI engineers contributed mobilization support on both continents and in-field installation assistance in Brazil to monitor and supervise the offloading of the tendon segments.
